So you're visiting Hot Springs, AR

So you're coming to visit Hot Springs National Park, and you're wondering what to do and where to stay that isn't necessarily marked on the travel brochure or found in the "tourist information" racks at every gas station.  You want some advice from a local.  Look no further!  We've compiled a lit of our staff's favorite haunts in and around Hot Springs.

First, we should just say that no matter what you do while you're here, you're sure to have a good time, especially if you take advantage of our Guided Kayaking Program on Lake Ouachita, called "Ouachita Adventure Kayaking" which you can find out all about HERE.

Now, with that said, we'll start with the most often asked question in the shop, (with regard to things to do in Hot Springs, that is) which is "Where is a good place to eat?"  There are several answers to that question, but here are our top 4 picks.  Java Primo, Fat Bottom Girls Cupcakes, Fat Jacks, and Rolandos.  Here's how we recommend hitting these places up.  Start with Java Primo, on Central Ave./7 South for some of their amazing oatmeal and a cup of coffee.  Java Primo is a locally owned coffee house and cafe that serves up some good grub and a killer cup of Joe.  After that, check out Cedar Glades Park for a mountain bike ride or a round of disc golf. No bike, no problem!! Check out the local bike shop, Parkside Cycle, for a rental, just hit them up 24 hours in advance.  After your ride, you'll want to head on over to Fat Jacks, downtown Hot Springs, for a cold beverage and a catfish po-boy.  Be sure to check out what music they have lined up for later, as you can walk up stairs and get your local music fix.  If you've got a sweet tooth and aren't full from lunch, drop by "Fat Bottom Girls" Cupcake shop, just across the street from Fat Jacks and indulge!  For dinner, there's no better place than Rolando's, also Downtown Hot Springs.  Be sure to sit on the back porch and listen to live music as you chow down on some Nuevo Latin Cuisine!  You can then, either head back to Fat Jacks or on down to Maxine's to catch some live music! Where are you staying?  That's an awesome question.  Why stay some place that looks just like every other hotel you've ever been to.  You've got to check out our friends at Look Out Point, Lakeside Inn.  This is not your average bed and breakfast and they definitely cater to folks with an active lifestyle.  If we were going to "stay-cation" in Hot Springs, THIS is where we would stay.

So there ya go! Some local picks on places to hang out and see Hot Springs like a local.  Enjoy your stay!
